Sushi and other dish selection is great! Had John as my server and he was very attentive and helped pick out a good appetizer. My only reason for not doing 5 star is because the lava roll had way too much sauce on it. It ruins the roll and makes it too heavy of a bite. Other than that this is a good place for sushi.

Interesting sushi with Louisiana twist. Flavor was great. The sizing of sushi can be better. The drink was probably watered down.

We needed a break from French Quarter food on our vacation and walked to Tsunami Sushi. Happy Hour 3-6pm, Monday after Mother’s Day. Plenty tables open and my friend and I sat at the bar. Food was exactly what we needed and at Happy Hour price, it was even better. Fish was fresh and the truffle salmon was something I’ve never heard of, but would order again! They also seared our nigiri upon request, med rare. I wish there was $1.50 nigiri where I lived! Ruby was an excellent bartender/server and really made our experience too-notch and elevated. Can’t wait to come back!

Walked here from our hotel for dinner and the food was delicious. We ordered a couple of rolls, one was on the specials menu, the Black and Gold roll and I can’t remember the name of the rest but they were all very tasty. A nice upscale sushi restaurant with friendly staff. My only complaint is that we saw a large roach or possibly a cricket crawling on the floor as we were paying the bill. Luckily, we were done eating. To their defense, there is a lot of shrubbery and bushes nearby the door so I don’t think it’s a cleanliness issue. However it was unsettling. Still recommend giving it a try.

Low-key sushi spot! You must try their alligator rolls. Bartender was very friendly and attentive. Recommended

There is so much great food in New Orleans it’s sometimes hard to pick a favorite but I’m going on record as saying this was one of the best dinners my family and I had during our recent visit. They had a scallop special that literally was one of the single best things I’ve ever eaten. Everything was great and their take on the classic Hurricane was awesome. Highly recommend it! Only 2 pictures because I was so focused on enjoying dinner I forgot to snap pics!!

Welcome to Tsunami Sushi New Orleans, a delightful escape from the bustling culinary scene of the French Quarter tucked away on Poydras Street. This trendy restaurant marries traditional sushi with a distinct Louisiana twist, creating a unique dining experience that artfully blends flavors and freshness. With easy accessibility, located at Pan American near St. Charles and Poydras, Tsunami offers a vibrant atmosphere that invites sushi lovers and newcomers alike to embark on a flavorful journey.

As you step inside, the ambiance strikes a balance between contemporary elegance and warm hospitality. The attentive staff, like John and Ruby, are eager to familiarize you with the extensive menu and assist you in selecting the perfect dishes to satisfy your cravings. Many patrons rave about the Happy Hour specials from 3-6 PM, providing excellent opportunities to savor delightful dishes at a fraction of the price—a feature that makes Tsunami not just a dining destination but a go-to spot for friends unwinding after a long day.

What truly sets Tsunami apart is its inventive sushi offerings. Customers express their delight in discovering dishes like the truffle salmon and the creative specials that reflect local flavors, such as the Black and Gold roll. While reviews highlight some dish variations (with the lava roll receiving a wealth of sauce that may overpower its delicate filling), the freshness of the ingredients typically shines through, ensuring that each bite resonates with quality and sophistication. Interestingly, the unique blend of regional ingredients adds a remarkable depth of flavor, merging the ocean’s gifts with the rich tastes synonymous with Louisiana cuisine.

Though some diners note minor concerns regarding portion sizes and the occasional drink dilution, the consensus remains clear: the quality of sushi here is unmatched. From the favorite Snow Crab roll to the daring Green Monster roll, there’s something for everyone, even the most adventurous eaters. Highlights like the well-executed nigiri and the thoughtful preparation of other dishes make every visit an experience worth savoring. Even the appetizers like dumplings and the trouble appetizer are crafted to impress, echoing the restaurant's dedication to balancing authenticity and creativity.

Yet, amid all the praise, it's vital to mention some pitfalls experienced by visitors, such as parking challenges during peak hours and the occasional insect sighting. These notes, while unsettling, are contextualized within the restaurant's urban surroundings and should not overshadow the overall experience.

In essence, Tsunami Sushi New Orleans serves as a refreshing alternative for those seeking sushi in an eclectic city famed for its myriad culinary delights. With warm service, innovative dishes, and a vibrant atmosphere, you're invited to dive headfirst into this ocean of flavors that truly defines the spirit of New Orleans cuisine, brilliantly crafted with a sushi lover's heart.
